What is Class G airspace?

Class G airspace (uncontrolled) is that portion of airspace that has not been designated as Class A, B, C, D, or E airspace. No ATC separation services are provided, and no specific pilot certification or equipment is required. It generally extends from the surface up to the base of the overlying controlled airspace.
